A Quick Thought

Rational debate and rational discourse no longer exist.

  1. Jacqui, it's interesting you bring up this point. While we certainly engage in valuable discussions in classroom, it also makes me wonder whether anyone has changed his/her opinion afterwards or only "strengthened" pre-existing ones. We have a saying that "politics and religion should not be mentioned at the dinner table." This is not to "restrict" it, but to avoid arguments, since rarely those discussions lead to agreement. Overall, however, is it possible that the worldviews have diverged so much that people on each side cannot have a meaningful conversation about policy issues where they actually can find an agreement?
With ongoing conflicts around the world, it proves that rational discourse is hardly possible anymore.
